Nuclear-industry equipment operates under combined ionizing radiation, temperature cycling, high vacuum, chemical corrosion and heavy-load micro-motion. Gamma rays, neutrons and beta particles can break lubricant molecular chains, cause cross-linking and gas formation, and degrade thickeners. Hardening, bleeding or liquefaction can seize bearings, stick valves and cause seal leakage, creating maintenance shutdowns, exposure risks and economic losses. Conventional mineral-oil, lithium and polyurea greases have limited radiation tolerance and may not support long maintenance-free periods in nuclear islands, reprocessing, accelerators and nuclear-medical equipment.
Radiation aging can irreversibly degrade ordinary grease after absorbed doses ranging from several thousand to tens of thousands of Gy, producing corrosive gases and solid residues. Hot reactor areas, cold starts and vacuum chambers impose conflicting temperature and outgassing requirements. Oxidizing media, acids, alkalis and cooling water demand chemical inertness and rubber/fluororubber compatibility. Restricted access to radiation zones favors long service intervals. Reciprocating micro-motion in control-rod mechanisms, valve actuators and remote manipulators requires dependable boundary-film protection against fretting.
The solution selects products by radiation level, temperature, vacuum and process media, with compatibility and long service life as priorities. Coverage includes nuclear-island equipment, auxiliaries, fuel reprocessing, particle accelerators, waste handling and nuclear-medical devices, supported by application procedures, storage, condition assessment and customized development.
Radilub radiation-resistant, Perflub fluorinated and Vaculub vacuum greases address medium/high radiation, corrosive media, vacuum and valve sealing.
Radilub V892 Radiation-Resistant Grease: radiation-stable synthetic oil, a special polymer thickener, radiation stabilizers and extreme-pressure/antiwear components. Cobalt-source irradiation testing supports high accumulated-dose tolerance with controlled consistency changes and reduced degradation gases. Operating range: -40~200°C. Extreme-pressure, wear and shear resistance suit combined radiation and heat. Applications include pressurized- and heavy-water-reactor control-rod drive mechanisms (CRDM), auxiliary pump bearings and valve actuators; remote fuel-reprocessing manipulators and spent-fuel transfer drives; accelerator radiation-zone guide wheels and target-station drives; waste solidification/encapsulation friction pairs; and radiation-zone gears, guides and bearings. Longer relubrication intervals reduce maintenance access.
Radilub B151 Radiation-Resistant Grease: developed for moderate radiation, with wide-temperature performance, corrosion protection and a stable colloidal structure that resists bleeding and hardening. It balances cost and radiation resistance for auxiliary equipment outside severe reactor-core zones. Applications include radiation-associated conventional-island auxiliaries, irradiation-processing drives, nuclear-medicine cyclotrons, radiotherapy rotary joints and radiographic inspection bearings and slides.
Perflub 2569 Polychlorotrifluoroethylene Lubricating and Sealing Grease: chemically inert, with low vapor pressure and resistance to strong oxidants, nitric acid and corrosive media. It is suited to proton-free lubrication/sealing duties and radiation environments involving aggressive chemicals. Applications include reprocessing-system valves, sealing faces, pistons and joints, corrosive-process pipeline valves, and ground-glass joints and seals in laboratory nuclear-chemical equipment.
Vaculub K209 PFPE High-Vacuum Grease: PFPE base oil and PTFE thickener provide extremely low saturated vapor pressure, low outgassing and thermal stability over -50~250°C, with some radiation tolerance. Applications include nuclear-research vacuum chambers, accelerator beamline bearings, nuclear vacuum pumps and valves, and precision drives with strict outgassing limits.
Vaculub B042 High-Temperature Ultrahigh-Vacuum Grease: high-purity PFPE offers heat and chemical resistance with very low vacuum evaporation loss. It serves hot irradiation test systems, reactor high-temperature sampling mechanisms, and bearings and slides in high-vacuum radiation-simulation equipment, addressing evaporation and coking under combined heat, radiation and vacuum.
Use V892 in high-radiation regions near the core; B151 for moderate-radiation auxiliaries; Perflub 2569 for strongly corrosive media; and K209/B042 for combined vacuum and radiation. Keep ordinary industrial greases out of nuclear-grade applications. Before use, verify compatibility with fluororubber and EPDM seals to prevent swelling, hardening and secondary leakage.
Thoroughly remove old grease and contaminants before assembly. Apply thin films to limit migration into process media, and use metered injection in remote equipment to reduce manual intervention. Store specialty greases sealed and protected from light. Maintain lubrication records and assess aging against absorbed dose and operating temperature to set maintenance intervals. Customized formulations can address fourth-generation reactors, liquid-metal cooling and nonstandard equipment.
Nuclear lubrication requires application-specific selection rather than direct reuse of ordinary industrial practices. SEIVIO products cover radiation resistance, chemical resistance, vacuum and wide temperatures across power generation, fuel-cycle, accelerator and nuclear-medical equipment. Graded selection and controlled maintenance reduce wear and radiation-related degradation, extend service life and reduce maintenance exposure.
